Apple unveiled the latest flavor of macOS, dubbed Catalina, at this year’s WWDC, and as is always the case, the company also announced that it would be opening the update up to developers. The update, which brings Apple’s desktop OS to version 10.15, brings with it a bevy of new features in addition to an all-new Dynamic Wallpaper.

The Major update that Catalina was really disrupted the ecosystem of custom screensavers within the Mac OS ecosystem. Major software like SaveHollywood just stopped working after the release and requires a lot of tinkering after installation in order to work as intended.

The Dynamic Wallpaper, like the one in macOS Mojave, automatically changes to reflect the time of day. Another thing it has in common with its predecessor is that it is absolutely gorgeous, offering an aerial view of California’s Santa Catalina Island. If you’re using Windows 10 and find yourself wishing for similar functionality on your PC, we’ve got you covered. The following guide will walk you through how to get this very wallpaper on your desktop and even have it automatically change to match the time of day.

1. Download the WinDynamicDesktop EXE file from the link below and run it.

  1. This won’t work in Catalina. Adobe says they are working on updating shared components for macOS 10.15. In the meantime, be aware of the incompatible apps: Photoshop. There have been issues with the 2018 version of Photoshop in macOS Mojave, so you may expect the trouble in Catalina as well.
  2. Because of some changes to the system volume on macOS Catalina, the desktop background pictures location has been moved to /System/Library/Desktop Picture. In addition, we can’t add any picture in that folder, because the folder is system privilege and the current user can’t change the privilege.

2. You will now be asked to specify your location. Enter the name of your city (or simply check the Use Windows location Service option) and hit OK.

3. From the window that follows, select a theme of choice. The application offers both macOS Mojave and Catalina dynamic wallpapers here. Hit Apply, and the app will begin to download the theme you chose.

Note: You can click the app’s system tray icon and select Dark Mode if you’d rather only have it switch between the darker wallpapers in each collection.

4. The application will now continue running in the background, automatically changing the wallpaper to match the time of day, which it determines based on your location. Click its system tray icon and select Options > Start when Windows boots so you don’t have to launch the application every time you restart. You can use the same menu to have the application change Windows accents based on the current wallpaper, switch between themes, or change locations.

Choose an account for automatic login

Screensaver
  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
  2. Click the lock , then enter the account password.
If you aren't logged in as an administrator, you're asked to enter an administrator name and password.
  3. Click Login Options in the lower-left corner.
  4. Choose an account from the “Automatic login” menu, then enter the password of that account.

The account is now set up to log in automatically when your Mac starts up. You might still be asked to log in manually after logging out, switching back from another user account, or locking your screen.

If automatic login is unavailable

When manual login is required, the “Automatic login” menu is dimmed or doesn't show the account name. For example:

  • If FileVault is turned on, manual login is required for all accounts. You can turn FileVault off.
  • If an account uses an iCloud password to log in, manual login is required for that account. You might also see the message “A user with an encrypted home folder can't log in automatically.” When changing the account password, you can choose not to use the iCloud password.
